Incognito adalah sebuah band asal Inggris yang merupakan salah satu anggota Acid Jazz Inggris. Incognito sendiri dalam bahasa latin berarti tidak diketahui atau in disguise, komposer sekaligus produser Incognito Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ memilih nama itu karena dianggap cocok untuk proyek musik Jazz, Nama Incognito juga seperti mengizinkan untuk berganti-ganti arah musik dari album ke album agar audiens tetap menebak-nebak musik apa lagi yang dihasilkan.

Incognito dibentuk pertama kali oleh Bluey dan Tubbs Williams pada September 1979 di sebuah ruangan milik Bluey yang lengkap dengan gitar, fender precision bass, dan tape revox tua. ketika itu mereka tergabung dalam grup musik Light of the World, tapi mereka berkeinginan membuat grup baru yang terdiri dari anggota-anggota band lain seperti Ray Careless dari Tarantula Jef dari Sour Grapes, dan dalam kurun dua hari band baru tercipta dengan nama Incognito. Pada awalnya Incognito mengusung tema funkjazz, mirip seperti free jam session, tapi dengan struktur.
Pada waktu itu seorang DJ pelopor dan berpengaruh di Inggris Chris Hill yang juga mencintai musik soul dan jazz tertarik dengan band yang Bluey dan Tubbs William buat, kemudian memberikan kontrak rekaman, Ensign Label pada tahun 70-an. Berkat DJ Chris, Incognito berhasil merilis album perdananya yang beraliran funkjazz.
